Day-by-day itinerary
Today we will meet you at the Lima airport and transfer you to your hotel. In the evening, you will enjoy an excellent dinner at one of the most elegant restaurants, surrounded by history, where a majestic ceremonial center once stood.
The day begins in Lima's Historic Center, where you'll visit a charming Franciscan monastery and a fascinating colonial mansion dating back to the mid-16th century, for a glimpse of colonial-era lifestyle. Then, watch the solemn changing of the guard at the Presidential Palace, as you stroll past Lima Cathedral and Plaza de Armas. Finally, walk down Jirón de la Unión, one of Lima's main streets, to reach Plaza San Martín, a monument to the first hundred years of independence.
Lunch will take place at a famous nearby restaurant that treats guests to well-served portions of traditional Peruvian food.
In the afternoon, you'll visit the impressive collection at the Larco Museum, which since 1926 has been housed within a viceregal hacienda dating back to the 18th century and spans five thousand years of Peruvian history: from the beginnings of Andean civilization to the Inca era.
Understand the worldview and philosophy of the ancient Peruvians through these invaluable pieces of art.
You will explore the varieties of Peruvian ceviche on a journey through its fascinating history and evolution, from the most traditional recipes to the most experimental approaches. Whether prepared on the spot at a local market or in a huarique, or served and seasoned at an award-winning restaurant, you will realize that each ceviche has its own charm. Start this culinary adventure by visiting a local market to learn about Peruvian products and the importance of their freshness for a great ceviche. Our first restaurant will be a Creole food tavern where we will try their traditional ceviche served with octopus chicharrón as a side dish. Then, at a local cevicheria, you will try the “modern” ceviche, served with avocado and capers. Finally, savor an Amazonian ceviche at a famous restaurant included among the 50 best restaurants in the world.
Our team will welcome you at the airport in Cusco and from there you will transfer to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will start by visiting Pisac, a charming little town famous for its artisan market. On a nearby hill is an archaeological complex with the same name, one of the most impressive examples of Inca engineering. From its strategic location, this ancient settlement dominated the entrance to the Sacred Valley.
Then, we will take you to a charming colonial hacienda and farm for your first gastronomic experience in Cusco. You will meet Maria del Pilar and Yussef, third-generation producers of giant white corn. They will welcome you into their home and let you come close to farm life in the valley by their side. You will learn firsthand about giant white corn, a crop native to the Sacred Valley (the only one in the world with a certificate of origin!), its harvest, and life at the ranch. Your hosts will delight you with a 4-course meal prepared with corn and other local ingredients.
After this experience, we will take you to your hotel to check in and rest.
We will take you from your hotel to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you will board the train that will take you to Km 104. Here is the entrance control to the Inca Trail, where you must show your passport to verify it with the information on your ticket. After the control, we will begin a hike of about 3 hours ascending until reaching the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna. Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of waterfalls, native flora, and mountain birds. After a delicious lunch, you will have time to rest and explore Wiñay Wayna, a well-preserved archaeological site with houses, terraces, towers, and water fountains. We will continue the hike to Inti Punku (Sun Gate), where you will have the first view of Machu Picchu. Finally, you will arrive at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, considered one of the greatest modern archaeological discoveries, where you can enjoy a panoramic view. Then, you will take the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes to spend the night.
After replenishing your energy with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you will take a bus to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
You will begin the guided tour, expertly navigating through the fascinating ruins and main streets. Explore the city's plazas and ascend intricate staircases of carved stone. Machu Picchu, revered as the spiritual center of the world according to esoteric wisdom, will captivate your senses during this two-hour guided tour. Then, you’ll take a bus back to Aguas Calientes.
Later in the day, board the Vistadome train for the return journey to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival at the station, our team will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.
In the company of your private guide, wander through the Ollantaytambo village, also known as the last standing Inca village. Not far away sits an important fortress, which served as a military, religious and administrative center during Inca times. It was also the only place to see a military victory of the Incas over the Spaniards. Its sophisticated stone structures, called collcas, once stored food and gear for the legions and people. Dive into history in this experience.
During lunch, you will discover the flavors, ingredients and culinary traditions of Ollantaytambo, where more than four decades of experience and family dedication combine to offer you an authentic culinary experience of the Urubamba Valley. At Chuncho, which means 'native and wild' in Quechua, you will enjoy a dynamic menu of native cuisine, with fresh and seasonal ingredients taken directly from their gardens.
To enhance your experience, we recommend staying at Starlodge Adventure Suites. Located an hour and a half from the city of Cusco, Starlodge offers a unique feeling of sleeping suspended from the mountain at 2,900 meters above sea level.
With your private guide, you will visit the impressive circular terraces of Moray, which were built for agricultural experimentation. This brilliant work of Inca engineering was designed to generate different microclimates in a small space. Afterward, you will visit the Maras Salineras, where you will see hundreds of pools of salt water, which eventually evaporate and leave crystallized salt: a phenomenon that has occurred for more than 500 years. To this day, local families continue to extract and market this salt. It's amazing!
Today you will visit the San Pedro Market, the heart of Cusco gastronomy, to delve into the wonder of Andean delicacies by tasting tamales, pork rinds, native fruits, cheese and bread, among other flavors. Then, you will walk through the highlights of the city: the Plaza de Armas, the Qorikancha Temple and the artistic neighborhood of San Blas to access the secrets that only locals can know. After this walk, you will have free time to recharge your batteries with a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, your guide will welcome you again to end the day visiting the megalithic Inca ceremonial fortress of Sacsayhuamán.
For dinner, enjoy a 3-course meal at a restaurant famous for its innovative approach to traditional Andean cuisine combined with international techniques.
At the appropriate time, we will transfer you to the Cusco airport for your return flight to Lima.
