Travel and Learn about Peruvian Embroidery

Travel and Learn about Peruvian Embroidery

Today, we wanted to dedicate this blog to our local embroiderers, who created unique pieces of art and teach us ways to creatively express ourselves.

We will guide you through a journey filled with art, color and ancentrals techniques, where we´ll show you the andean cosmovision of our country, which reflects in embroidery pieces and jewelry, from the perspective of local artisans.

¿Are you ready to embark on this adventure of art and color?

First Stop: Lima

Day 1:

Our itinerary starts in Lima’s airport (Jorge Chavez). Our team will bring you to your hotel, so you can rest, relax, and enjoy a delicious meal at the hotel restaurant. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, we can help you book dinner at one of our top recommended restaurants in the area.

Day 2:

We start our day by embarking on a city tour around the cosmopolitan Miraflores streets, where we will see the principal attractions of the district, while enjoying a beautiful seaside view.

Lunch will be free to choose! If you’re in doubt about the unlimited options, do not worry, our guides will be more than happy to guide you based on your cravings that day. We’ll pick up the tour after lunch at our first artisan jewelry workshop, directed by the winner of the 2021 Hand & Lock competition in London, who will teach us a modern embroidery technique with jewelry.

To end the second day in the best way possible, we will enjoy a delicious dinner in one of the 2022 world’s 50 best restaurants.

Day 3:

Day 3 starts off with an early wake up call to explore the colonial town of Lima. We will go around local businesses to pick and choose some embroidery elements for our workshop later on. After lunch, we will be all ready to have a new embroidery workshop with womens of the shipibo-konibo comunnunity. They will teach us several ancestral embroidery techniques of the peruvian amazon. Later, in the evening we will make a stop in a famous restaurant, where we will try some of Arequipas traditional food.

To end this incredible 3 day journey in Lima, we will start getting ready for our next destination: Arequipa, Peru.

Day 4:

Our adventure to the white city starts early with a flight departing from Lima to the white city. We arrive in Arequipa and go directly to the Cathedral museum to see different types of embroidery with eclectic elements. To end this day, we will go to a local “picantería”, where we will enjoy all the emblematic plates of Arequipa. Finally, to end the day, we will walk around the beautiful white city with locals and visit the famous Santa catalina convent.

Day 5:

On day 5 of this adventure, we will discover the most important alpaca textile plant in Peru. Here, we will learn about different processes, treatments of the alpaca fibers, and the creation of different products, such as alpaca sweaters and different accessories.
At lunchtime, we will have free time to go around the city and discover things on our own. If there is any place you’d like to visit that hasn’t been on schedule (or enjoy a little bit of shopping time), this is your chance! If you don’t know where to go for lunch, our expert foodies will recommend a variety of restaurants, following the cooking style you desire. We are sure that some of our recommendations will make you fall in love with our local food.

To end the day, we´ll go to the colca valley for our last experience of embroidery technique with the yanque community.

Day 6:

This adventure to the colca will start in the yaque community. There, we will visit the local embroidery association. They will teach us the ancestral technique of stitching that expresses the andean cosmovision, through hummingbird, flowers and other figures. Also, it is important to understand the value of the stitching work of the yaque community, which has been recognized as a cultural national patrimony, for its technical, historical, traditional and artistic value.

To end this trip in the most relaxing way, we will go to the pozas of thermal waters in the Colca Valley.

This itinerary is perfect for travelers that are looking to live different unique experiences and learn a new skill all in one trip. We like to describe this itinerary as a fusion of delicious coast and andean culinary experiences, city tours, embroidery workshops and jewelry, local shopping, and exploration.
